delicious mince recipe

Mom's Everyday Mince

Ah Beef Mince – this mince recipe is a the perfect way to make a batch of mince that can be adapted and is delicious to use in different ways. We recommend that you make the mince in bulk and then freeze portions. Its great for Taco Night, with pasta as an Easy Bolognaise, the most delicious breakfast: Mince on Toast with a fried egg on top – yum, or perfect for something hearty when you need some comfort food – mince on a hot fresh burger bun – so simple yet so satisfying. This recipe is for a big batch that would be suitable for a Spaghetti Bolognaise for 4 people as well as leftovers for home freezing.

A delicious, wholesome recipe for beef mince that is so versatile it can be used as a "quick" Bolognaise sauce, can be used for taco night, or simply on toast for a delicious treat.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 4 small-medium red onions, chopped finely
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste (or 1 clove of fresh garlic)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1kg beef mince
  • 2 stock cubes (beef or chicken or vegetable)
  • 125ml red wine (or water)
  • 1 400g can tinned tomatoes, preferable chopped
  • 70g concentrated tomato paste

Directions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium to high heat, add the onions, garlic, oregano and thyme. Cook while stirring until the onions are translucent (don’t let them go brown).

  2. Add the mince, stirring to separate the mince and break it down and allowing it to cook and incorporate with the onions and herbs. Add red wine or water and allow the alcohol to cook off for 5 minutes.

  3. Before the meat is completely cooked through, reduce heat to low and add the stock cubes along with the tinned tomatoes and tomato paste. Allow this to cook on low heat slowly for around 30-40 minutes stirring every 10-15 minutes or so, just to make sure its cooking through nicely.
